Professionalism – The guild of Ganjiers is representative of the highest caliber of cannabis professionals. Whatever our specific expertise, we are united under the standards of quality our profession defines and as such owe a duty of professionalism to the industry, community, plant and environment. When representing the guild or doing guild business;
Endeavor to create respectful and amiable encounters with all persons at all times
Dress in a coordinated, stylish manner that conveys intention and professionalism
Be on time to all appointments. On time is always 15 minutes earlier than the client, event, group, meeting or waiting party
Be thorough and comprehensive with communications. Be patient and take the time to be fully understood. We do a disservice to clients and community if we leave them in ambiguity or confusion
Treat all persons with the highest degree of respect without prejudice, harassment, or discrimination
Maintain ongoing and continuous education within the cannabis space. We have a duty to stay abreast of an ever changing sea of regulation, research, innovation, and evolution
Continue expanding expertise within your specific subsection of expertise within the industry. I.e. If you specialize in sales, continue education into modern sales trends and techniques in related industries. In this way we will continue to grow as Ganjiers and the guild will continue to increase its overall expertise
Do not resort to anger or aggression to solve any dispute or advance any idea. Cream will rise to the top and we must maintain discourse with civility and integrity
Disclose all conflicts of interest and be transparent with your personal work in relation to guild work
Do your best to project joy and love for the plant, industry, and community. Remember there is no such thing as bad weed, only no weed
Media – Social and otherwise. We are members of a public facing organization that would seek to advance the goals of craft and quality cannabis. Media is a powerful tool and we must be conscious of our presence at all times. When engaging in media format;
Clearly distinguish between personal opinions versus guild opinions. Consider professional ganjier/guild member profiles separate from personal profiles
Do not attempt to speak for the guild over all unless approved by the guild’s executive board
In as much as you choose to participate in social media, make every effort to advance the guild’s educational, professional, and advocacy goals to the community
Remember you are an epicurean professional and your expert opinion is not in conflict with the layman’s opinion. You do not need to engage with every comment, dissenter, or person/s that may have a potential disagreement with you
If contacted through social media for public facing comments, interviews, podcasts, etc. refer to navigators@ganjierguild.com for all media inquiries
We are an apolitical organization and your guild associated social media should reflect this. Advocacy goals will be defined and mainstream politics/news that do not directly relate to the cannabis plant, industry, or guild itself should be eschewed.
Advocacy – We are advocates and stewards of the cannabis industry as a whole, seeking to elevate the knowledge, industry, expertise, and goals of the plant itself and those who diligently care for it. Some goals to consider advocating for as individual professionals and the guild over all are;
Federal legalization of cannabis
Craft cannabis vs commercial cannabis industry definitions
Industry access to non violent cannabis offenders
Reformatting so called “green waste” laws to utilize the entirety of the plant in a sustainable manner
Clearly distinguishing drug type cannabis from industrial type cannabis by means of end products
Championing of natural farming techniques
Sustainable food production subsidized by cannabis agriculture
Establishment of appellations of origin across the country and beyond
Establishment of breeder licenses within the industry
Better and faster paths to cannabis social frameworks like lounges and consumption friendly events and venues
Maintenance of local supply chains
Legalization of all drugs
Solidarity with psychedelic decriminalization and legalization efforts
Union of psychedelic industry with the cannabis industry to prevent pharmaceutical monopolization
Equitable access to cannabis products for all socio economic tiers of people
Establishment of legalized international import/export trade
Fair tax and finance capabilities as enjoyed by all other mainstream industries
Cannabis access to soldiers, veterans, first responders and other industries riddled with trauma
Looser advertising regulations
Promotion of industrial hemp materials in all industries
Judgement – We are judges of competition grade products and determiners of the highest quality products, production systems, and experiences within the industry. This is an awesome responsibility and a crown jewel of the guild’s duties. Remember;
Cannabis judging is the privilege of a ganjier but not all ganjiers are ready for judging
Judging is work, it takes hours a day over weeks to properly judge a competition
For those who seek our opinions on their products we owe a duty of detail in explaining our opinions, thoroughly and with respect
Criticism should always be constructive with guidance on how to improve
No one will ever be happy or satisfied with us. There will always be dissent and opposition to our judgements and/or qualifications. The guild is here to reinforce your credibility so you do not have to engage
Cannabis cups are ever growing but evaluations of dispensaries, labs, and grows in the vein of Michelin stars has yet to be developed. Stay informed as to this ongoing process and know that we will employ and even greater standard than a cannabis cup would an individual product
Ganjier grades/evaluations should be associated with a price point in each individual market. This is useful for assigning value to products as well as determining what is good value in each market. We must seek to translate the value of quality to the average consumer
Professional evaluations, judging, and assessment provide real value to companies and communities. It is a paid service to the guild/ganjier judges themselves and while many of us may be willing to provide free services, we must refrain as much as possible so as to grow the economic viability of the guild and its professionals
Consider evaluating and judging bulk material in two phases, first phase assessing flavor/aroma and then revisiting a second time to judge experience and effect. Allow time in the day to experience the effects but understand efficiency needs
Provide clients with as much detail as possible in a positive manner
